About dominik.net
This about is done in a Q&A format. If you have a question, feel free to add it as a comment to the bottom of the page and I'll answer it and add it to the main body.
Why have a personal and business home page?
Well, since I run my own business, I felt that the best way for people to get to know me (aside from meeting face-to-face) was to create a site that presented everything that I do, regardless of whether it be of a personal or business nature. Since I'm the only employee of my own business, this works quite elegantly.
Aren't you concerned about having all of your personal information on the Internet?
Whether I like or not, most of my personal information is already on the Internet. A simple search on my last name on infospace.com will turn up my home phone number and even driving directions to my house. The information is already there, I was just transferring it to my own site.
Why bother making this site?
Accessible information. If someone wonders what I look like, they should be able to find a photo of me. Whenever someone needs driving directions, he or she only need to go to http://dominik.net/directions/ to get them. If someone needs to get in touch, http://dominik.net/personal/contact.php3 should suffice. If a possible web design client is wondering exactly what I know, http://dominik.net/resume/ will hopefully have what he or she needs.
There are also deeper reasons, to quote Philip Greenspun: "If I learn something about the publishing industry, about cameras, about computers, or about life, I want to share it with as many people as possible so that they can benefit from my experience. Wasting time isn't wasteful anymore if you can write it up and keep other people from wasting time" (Philip and Alex's Guide to Web Publishing).
