The Face of the Waters

the face of the waters
subtle and still
shimmering slightly
soft and subdued

the face of the waters
raging and roaring

Christ is risen
Christ will come again

the face of the waters
at the moment of creation
God moved across them
speedily surveying that which was good

the face of the waters
in creation
Jesus walked on them
and Peter followed

the face of the waters
now once again still
shimmering slightly
silently awaiting...
